Inkpen Common

Today we will be at a new venue, Inkpen Common, clearing birch scrub from an area of heathland for BBOWT.

Inkpen Common is a bit less than 2 miles from the centre of Kintbury and the postcode is RG17 9QT. If you’re coming into Kintbury from the A4, turn left off the High Street onto Inkpen Road and follow it up the hill, veering right where Laylands Green joins the road from your left. About half a mile further on, you pass a churchyard on your left, just before a staggered crossroads with Forbury Lane to the left and Kintbury Road to the right. Continue straight on, and after about a quarter of a mile the road forks by a small triangular patch of grass. Take the right fork signposted Inkpen Common and after about half a mile you’ll reach a crossroads with a left turn to Heads Lane and a right turn to a bridleway. The entrance to the Inkpen Common reserve is on the left, just past Heads Lane, in front of the post box. You can either turn left into the reserve and park on the grass or park at the left hand side of the road.

If you’re coming from Newbury via the Enborne Road through Hamstead Marshall, when you come into Kintbury, take the second left onto Craven Way, second left onto Laylands Green and left onto Inkpen Road, and then follow the directions above.
