Today we’ll be on Newtown Common, working on the east side of the B4640, pulling and cutting holly with Simon Melville. Because of limited space, we’ll be parking in 2 separate areas just off the B4640. Here are directions from the Swan Inn roundabout – coming from Newbury take the second exit to the B4640 signposted Winchester, Oxford and Andover, going past the Swan Inn on your left. After about half a mile along the B4640, at the brow of the hill, turn right at the pale blue sign for Horris Hill School and park at the side of the road. Then walk south along the path under the power lines, parallel to the B4640, for about a quarter of a mile to where Simon Melville will meet us. If there’s not enough room to park when you turn towards Horris Hill School, drive about a quarter of a mile further along the B4640, turn right by the small post box and park at the side of the road.
