Today we will be clearing birch scrub for BBOWT on Crookham Common in an area where we have not worked before.

We will park in a small car park on Old Thornford Road and meet Julian Cooper, Land Manager for Berkshire West, by the gate onto Crookham Common at what3words:///assets.chase.priced

Directions: from Thatcham, go over the level crossing and follow Crookham Hill for a little over a mile. Turn right onto Old Thornford Road, ignore a car park on your left and continue straight ahead for about a quarter of a mile. Follow the road to the left and park in the small car park there or at the side of the road beyond the car park.

From Newbury, there are 2 possible routes, either along Bury's Bank Road or along the A339.

Coming along Bury's Bank Road, turn right at the junction with Crookham Hill and follow the road for half a mile. Turn right onto Old Thornford Road and follow the Thatcham directions above.

From the A 339, at the Swan Inn roundabout take the first left towards Basingstoke. Stay on the A339 and continue towards Basingstoke at the next 2 roundabouts. At the following roundabout, turn left onto Thornford Road signposted Thatcham, Brimpton and Aldermaston. Follow the road for about a mile and a half, turn left onto Crookham Common Road and a little further on, turn left again onto Old Thornford Road and follow the Thatcham directions above.
